大阪天満宮は、菅原道真が大宰府へと左遷される前に立ち寄り、 参拝した大将軍社を起源とする。天満の地名の由来となった神社であり、広く信仰を集めたほか天満宮周辺は物資の集散地として、また繁華街として発展した。 夏には日本三大祭に数えられる天神祭が行われる。
Osaka Tenmangu Shrine has its origins in the Daisogun Shrine, which was visited and worshipped by Sugawara no Michizane before he was exiled to Dazaifu. It is the shrine that gave rise to the name of the Tenma district and has been widely worshipped. The area around the shrine also developed as a bustling commercial and entertainment district, serving as a center for the distribution of goods. The Tenjin Festival, which is counted among Japan's three major festivals, is held here in the summer.
