大阪城は、豊臣秀吉によって築かれた天下の名城。織田信長と抗争を繰り広げた石山本願寺の跡地に築かれ、難攻不落を謳われたが、慶長20 (1615) 年の大坂夏の陣で落城する。 その後は徳川幕府によって再建されるも、 天守閣は寛文5(1665)年に焼失し、以後260年以上にわたり天守閣のない時代が続いた。 現在の天守閣は昭和6(1931) 年の築で、内部は歴史博物館。城跡全体が大阪城公園として整備され、 桜の名所である西の丸庭園や、 もと第四師団司令部の建物を活用した複合商業施設ミライザ大阪城などがある。 また大阪歴史博物館や難波宮跡公園が城の南西側に隣接している。現在の大阪城は、 秀吉時代の城を埋めた上に築かれており、石垣や掘など構造物はすべて江戸時代のもの。 また戊辰戦争や空襲などで幾度も被災しており、現存する江戸時代の建造物は大手門や乾櫓など一部のみである。
Osaka Castle is a famous castle built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It was constructed on the site of Ishiyama Honganji, which had been in conflict with Oda Nobunaga. It was known for being impregnable, but it fell during the Siege of Osaka in 1615. It was later rebuilt by the Tokugawa Shogunate, but the castle tower burned down in 1665, and for over 260 years, there was no castle tower. The current castle tower was built in 1931 and serves as a historical museum. The entire castle grounds have been developed into Osaka Castle Park, which includes the Nishinomaru Garden, a famous cherry blossom spot, and a commercial facility called "Miraiza Osaka Castle" that utilizes the former Fourth Division Headquarters building. The Osaka Museum of History and Naniwa Palace Site Park are located on the southwest side of the castle. The current Osaka Castle was built on top of Hideyoshi's castle, and all of its structural elements, such as stone walls and moats, date back to the Edo period. The castle has been damaged multiple times due to wars and air raids, and only a few buildings from the Edo period, such as the Otemon gate and the Kinzo storehouse, have survived to this day.
