三笠公園とヴェルニー公園
明治以降、日本有数の軍港として整備されてきた横須賀港。現在も日本の海上自衛隊とアメリカ海軍の基地が置かれている。 町の中心部からほど近い海沿いには三笠公園があり、 戦艦「三笠」 が記念艦「三笠」として保存公開されている。その北側、 基地となっている港を望む場所には、 日本の近代化に貢献したフランス人技術者の名に由来するバラの名所ヴェルニー公園があり、 多くの艦船が浮かぶ圧巻の風景が見られる。
Yokosuka Port has been developed as one of Japan's leading military ports since the Meiji era, and it currently houses bases for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and the United States Navy. Located along the seafront close to the town center is Mikasa Park, where the battleship Mikasa is preserved and open to the public as a museum ship. To the north of Mikasa Park, overlooking the harbor, is Verny Park, a rose garden named after a French engineer who contributed to Japan's modernization. Visitors can enjoy the breathtaking view of numerous ships floating in the harbor from the park.
