銭洗弁財天宇賀福神社は、源頼朝が、 夢枕に立った人頭蛇身の水神、 宇賀福神のお告げで建立したといわれる。洞窟の中の奥宮で沸くのは鎌倉五名水のひとつである銭洗水。 洗ったお金は保管せず、拭いて財布に戻して使うのがよいとされる。
Zeniarai Benten Shrine is said to have been built on the instructions of the water god Ugafuku, who appeared in a dream to Minamoto no Yoritomo as a human-headed snake-bodied deity. The main feature of the shrine is the inner sanctum located in a cave, where the Zeniarai water springs from, one of the Kamakura's Five Water Sources. It is recommended to wipe the money washed in the spring and return it to your wallet rather than keeping it.
