八日市・護国の町並みは、旧街道沿いに江戸末期から明治、大正時代にかけて建てられた商家や土蔵、町家などの建物が立ち並ぶ。 本芳我家、 大村家、上芳我家 (木蠟資料館上芳我邸)の3つが重要文化財に指定されている。 昔の建物を利用した資料館が点在しており、じっくりと見学したい。また、 木造2階建ての芝居小屋、 内子座も必見。 大正5(1916)年に建てられた芝居小屋を修理復元したもので、 花道や奈落などを見学できる。 現在も芸術文化活動の拠点として活用されている。保存地区は６００ｍにわたり、規模状態ともに、良質。町民、住民の方の工夫や努力の積み重ねが地区全体に表れています。落ち着いた意匠の建物が立ち並ぶなか、地区の空はあくまでも広く、贅沢限りないつくりでありながら、違和感もない。生き残るのもの価値は底が知れません。時間をたっぷりかけて、散策したい場所です。
The streets of Hikone and Gokoku are lined with buildings such as merchant houses, storehouses, and townhouses that were built during the late Edo, Meiji, and Taisho periods along the old highway. Three buildings, the Honjogake House, Omura House, and Kamijogake House (Kira Museum Kamijogake Residence), have been designated as important cultural properties. There are also scattered museums that utilize old buildings and are worth exploring in detail. In addition, the two-story wooden theater, the Uchiko-za, is a must-see. It was repaired and restored from a theater built in 1916 during the Taisho era, and visitors can see the hanamichi (flower path) and naraku (trapdoor). It is still used as a base for artistic and cultural activities. The preservation district covers 600 meters and is of high quality in terms of its scale and condition. The efforts and hard work of the townspeople and residents are reflected throughout the entire district. Among the buildings with calm and refined designs, the district's sky remains open and vast, creating a luxurious yet harmonious atmosphere. The value of things that survive cannot be understated. This is a place where you can take your time and enjoy a leisurely stroll.
