炭鉱王として知られる伊藤伝右衛門が50歳の時、歌人である柳原白蓮 (当時25歳)を妻として迎え入れる際に明治44(1911) 年に改築した邸宅。約2300坪の広大な敷地内に、日本庭園に面した4つの棟、 部屋数25という邸宅と3つの土蔵からなる。旧伊藤伝右衛門邸2階の居室は、妻白蓮のために作られた日本庭園を一望する見晴らしのよい部屋。 銀箔を張った襖や竹の節だけを残した欄間、 蝶をあしらった天袋など、さまざまな意匠が凝らされた豪華絢爛な造りになっている。
This is the mansion that Denemon Ito, known as the "coal mining king," built in 1911 at the age of 50 when he married the poet Hakuren Yanagihara, who was 25 years old at the time. The mansion is located on a vast site of approximately 2,300 tsubo (7,590 square meters), and consists of four buildings facing a Japanese garden, with a total of 25 rooms, and three storehouses. The second-floor living room of the former Ito Denemon Mansion offers a magnificent view of the Japanese garden that was created for his wife Hakuren. The mansion is decorated with various designs, such as gold-leafed sliding doors, transoms with only the knots of bamboo left, and ceilings decorated with butterflies. The luxurious and gorgeous architecture is a sight to behold.
