田川市石炭・歴史博物館は、かつて筑豊随一の規模を誇った三井田川鉱業所伊田竪坑の跡地に建てられた博物館。田川の歴史や文化、 炭坑で実際に使用されていた道具や大型機械などを展示する。 見どころは日本で初めて世界の記憶(世界記憶遺産) に登録された山本作兵衛コレクション。
The Tagawa City Coal & History Museum is located on the site of the former Mitsui Tagawa Coal Mining Ida Vertical Shaft, which was once the largest in the Chikuho region. The museum exhibits the history and culture of Tagawa, as well as tools and large machinery used in the coal mine. The highlight of the museum is the Yamamoto Sakuhei Collection, which was the first in Japan to be registered as a Memory of the World by UNESCO.
