櫛田神社は、奈良時代の創建と伝わる博多の総鎮守で、地元では“お櫛田さん”の愛称で呼ばれている。毎年7月に行われ、博多の町に夏を告げ博多祇園山笠が奉納される神社で、 境内では迫力ある飾り山笠を1年中 (6月を除く) 見学できる。 敷地内にある博多歴史館では豊臣秀吉が残した朱印状など貴重な資料を展示している。櫛田神社の境内裏にある櫛田茶屋では博多名物の櫛田のやきもちを味わうことができる。
Kushida Shrine is the main Shinto shrine in Hakata, said to have been founded during the Nara period, and is affectionately known as "Okushida-san" by the locals. Every year in July, the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival is held here, marking the beginning of summer in Hakata. The shrine is known for its impressive decorative floats, which can be seen all year round (excluding June). The nearby Hakata Historical Museum exhibits valuable materials such as the red-seal certificates left by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. At Kushida Chaya, located behind the shrine, you can taste Hakata's famous "yakimochi" (grilled rice cake).
