明治初期に開港し国際貿易港として栄えた門司港には、明治から昭和初期にかけて建築された趣ある建物が多く残り、歩きながら巡るのが楽しい。
玄関口のJR門司港駅は開業から105年経った平成31(2019)年に木造2階建ての大正時代の姿に復原された。 みどりの窓口や観光案内所のほか、スターバックスコーヒーやレストランなどが入っている。 また皇族がご行幸の際に利用した旧貴賓室なども見学できる。このほか、 旧門司三井倶楽部、 旧大阪商船、 旧門司税関などがおもな見どころ。北九州市は日本新三大夜景都市に認定されており、なかでも門司港レトロ展望室からの眺めは見事。さらに11月下旬~3月中旬頃 (年により変更あり)に、町中がライトアップされる門司港レトロ浪漫灯彩を開催。 冬の港が幻想的な雰囲気に包まれる。
Mojiko Port, which opened in the early Meiji period and flourished as an international trade port, has many charming buildings that were built from the Meiji period to the early Showa period, making it enjoyable to stroll around while taking in the sights.
The JR Moji Port Station, which is the gateway to the area, was restored to its two-story Taisho-era wooden structure in 2019, 105 years after its opening. In addition to the Midori no Madoguchi ticket office and tourist information center, there are also a Starbucks Coffee and restaurants located within. The former Imperial Guest Room, which was used by members of the imperial family during their visits, is also open to visitors.
Other major attractions include the former Moji Mitsui Club, the former Osaka Shosen, and the former Moji Customs House. Kitakyushu City has been designated as one of Japan's new three major night view cities, and the view from the Moji Port Retro Observatory is particularly stunning. In addition, the Moji Port Retro Romantic Light Show, which illuminates the streets of the town, is held from late November to mid-March (subject to change depending on the year), creating a fantastic atmosphere in the winter port.
